Its never been more important for kids to get a better start in life. Learning through play for kids has been around since the very beginning and it has been proven that kids who start learning early, enjoy learning more and go onto higher achievements in education. Maria Montessori believed in a hands-on approach to learning. She encouraged children to develop their observation skills by doing many types of activities. These activities include use of the five senses, kinetic movement, spatial refinement, small and gross motor skill coordination, and concrete knowledge that leads to later abstraction. But would do not need to go to a Montessori Learning institution, Nursery or Kindergarten for your children to benefit from educational wooden toys.

The first original toys that have been dated from 1100BC and were made out of wood, as this was the only material available to safely carve items for children. By the 18th century many items that we would recognize today were common place in the upper and middle class homes. Even back then the intention was for learning through play with one of the most popular toys being wooden blocks with letters and numbers carved and painted into the sides. Even today the majority of children are attracted to the bright colours and stacking potential of these classic building blocks. Wooden toys have never gone out od fashion and even when compared toi the latest technology fad you can see the attraction of a solid toy that could outlast even the most expensive piece of plastic.

Educational Wooden toys are suitable for many ages starting from the earliest age improving tots handling and manipulation skills. Wooden blocks on boards help had eye co-ordination and help in shape and colour recognition in the very young. As children get older there are ore complex wooden toys introducing more complex ideas and puzzles right up to items like the Montessori Fraction Board which can help early school children with Maths concepts.

As with lots of repetitive tasks it can help learning to have a poem to recite or a song to sing. The following is s song that can be sung to the tune of “Splish Splash I was having a Bath”

Criss cross and go under the bridge
Then you go to pull it tight
Make a loop but keep a long tail
That is how to do it right
Then you take the other string
And you wrap it round the loop
Pull it through the hole
How you got the scoop
Criss cross and go under the bridge

Each shoe has its own lace and be removed from the board.
Teaching a child to tell the time can be a trying process, but the with a teaching clock the task can be made to be enjoyable and if a child thinks that it is fun then they will find it far easier to learn quickly. You can start introducing clocks at around the age 5.

This large wooden has large numbers and a clear clock face and is an excellent first step for a child to start learning the time. All of the numbers can come out so a child can practice putting them all back in the correct sequence. Around the edges are pictures representing each number on the clock making it even easier for younger children to recognise the numbers. The picture around the edge also come out, this means that noy only is this educational wooden toy a great teaching aid it is also a jigsaw.
The Montessori teaching method, which has become very popular with parents who are home schooling, is a child-centered educational method based on the work of the Italian educator Maria Montessori.

Montessori believed in a hands-on approach to learning. She encouraged children to develop their observation skills by doing many types of activities. These activities include use of the five senses, kinetic movement, spatial refinement, small and gross motor skill coordination, and concrete knowledge that leads to later abstraction.

There are many toys and educational items that assist the Montessori method. Mathematics is one of the key area’s of learning that can be helped with this method and there are products that can help children go from a concrete understanding of mathematics to an abstract understanding of mathematics via mathematical concepts. The fraction board is a great example clearly allowing children to learn the concept of 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4’s.
